As some of you may already know, I was lucky enough to affiliate with a gallery here in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Galeria San Francisco is one of the most actively marketed galleries with 12 exhibiting artists, a large teaching space and over five active art teachers, all in different styles and mediums.
I was selected to be the "Featured Artist" for the month of February, 2019 and I was wildly excited and scared all at the same time. What if no one came to the opening on February 2nd? Worse, what if EVERYONE came and they all looked disinterested? They say the definition of courage is to feel the fear and do it anyway. I certainly felt the fear and continued to put one foot in front of another. I produced painting after painting and soon a theme began to develop. I realized it was all about transformations in my life and that I had something important to say about that.
I soon had six large paintings... enough for the major basis of my show and enough different pieces for the purposes of publicity. I also had to learn about pricing art for a new market. San Miguel tolerates higher prices than when I was active in Panama, but certainly not as high as East/West Coast art markets.
I developed a brochure for the show and I present the interior spread here for you to read. It covers my intentions for the show called "Transformations: A Story of Change". All six major paintings are featured along with descriptions and pricing. Following that are some photos from the night of the show.
Imagine my surprise when four of the six sold in the first days of the show! "Ripple Effect" was sold on Opening Night to a local San Miguel art collector. "Ancha de San Antonio" was featured on the cover of the SAN MIGUEL WALKING GUIDE and sold to a professor in Upstate New York who is furnishing his antique farmhouse with contemporary abstracts. "Lounging In The Jardin" sold and went to North Carolina. "Entrada A La Parroquia" was purchased as a gift for a dear friend of mine who fell in love with it. So I get to visit that painting every now and then. "What Saved Me" and "End of the Day" are still waiting to go to their forever homes. Enjoy......
