First Post of My Incessant Ramblings

Hello, world!

This is my first post of Robyn Cole Artworks blog.

First posts are always kind of weird, aren't they? They're always about things like: what do I want to say first. What is the impression I want YOU to have of ME. How can I write so wittily that you just cannot wait for the next RSS feed in your inbox saying there's a NEW post at RobynColeArtworks blog. How can I get you to like me!!!!

Oh, all these thoughts are rambling through my brain at the speed of light. Should I tell you my background, give you my credentials, defend the 3 square feet of artistic space God gave me? Should I just plunge into my deep thoughts on art? (There aren't any.)

So, instead, I'll stick to the simpler question: Why a blog named after me? Why not something cuter and more original? Like "Panama Painter" or "Boquete Bouncy Babe"?

I toyed with those ideas, trust me. The cutesy in me wanted to come out, big time. But the Marketer in me said "Use your name....SEO....use your name.....SEO....use your name....easier for people to find you......use your name.....it's the closest you'll get to seeing your name in lights on Broadway.....use your name.....SEO...."   and so on and so on."

So, Robyn Cole Artworks blog it is. And here's what I'll write about: anything I damn well please.

Ha! But I'll also write about all things I find interesting from a creative standpoint. I'm exploring a number of mediums: I sculpt with vintage and cast off jewelry, I paint with hot wax in a process known as ENCAUSTIC. I love to dabble in water colors, surface design, collage, assemblage and texturing, I'd love to do some art quilts.

So, my creative friends, basically wherever I go artistically is what shall appear on this blog.

If you want to know what it's like to be a middle aged Southern California housewife uprooted from there to move to a small town in Boquete, Panama, you can read all about it in my OTHER BLOG, over at Third World Wife. I write about the interesting things I see and experience in this no-longer-a-third-world country of Panama.

In addition, a web site called Second Act recently featured me in one of their stories. You can check it out here.

You have lots of homework already, kids. Get ready....there just might be a pop quiz.

I like to think of myself as a creative soul, living the dream in Panama. Truth be told, I'm just trying to negotiate life’s passages on this rock upon which we’ve landed. I would like to do that with as much dignity as possible and without wreckage, hurt feelings and tears. I can do that. At least until I get out of bed.
