"Authentic Lives: Transformation" is part of my Authentic Lives series -- a series that speaks to those people who give real thought to how they want to live their lives. Many of us go through our lives a little bit on "auto pilot", going through the motions until we give it real thought. The structure of this piece shows the "auto pilot" lives in the background, a little opaqued and unclear, but still workable. The raised panels represent the fully colorful and 3-dimensional quality our lives take when we live authentically.
The "Transformation" in the title of this one speaks to that moment in our lives when something happens that drastically alters the course of our lives. Maybe we meet our future spouse for the first time. We say "yes" to the job offer in a distant country. We shed destructive habits and pick up a lifetime of spiritual growth.
Aesthetically, this particular painting features my "EncauStrips" technique. It was begun after a 3 week visit to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. A beautiful colonial city, the colors and vibrancy of this art colony are captured throughout the painting. I've used maps, newspaper articles and bus tickets to memorialize my visit there. And, if you look very closely at one of the detailed shots at the end of the slide show, you'll see the my personal transformation that changed the course of my life.
The slide show, below, details the creation of this painting. Enjoy!
