This class is for students who have a working knowledge of the encaustic process. You have taken my Beginning Encaustic Workshop or have learned the basics from another source. You will know what medium is, how to apply it to an appropriate substrate and how to fuse. You will have a working knowledge of safety issues and the various tools used in this process. You will have some exposure to a few techniques including collage and embedding objects, accretion, and stencils.
In this intense, 5-hour class, you will learn more advanced techniques, such as shellac burn (both wet and dry methods), using a metal eyedropper to achieve effects, how to use a torch to create specialized effects and you will be introduced to the method of utilizing a hot iron in your work.
Tuition:$75 ($25 materials fee and $50 teaching fee.) All supplies and tools will be provided.
Time: 10 am to 3 pm (allowing one hour for lunch)
The four hours are intensive, but highly enjoyable. Students will leave the hands-on workshop with their own encaustic painting and a solid foundation with which to further explore this unique medium. By the end of the day, you will learn the techniques used in these three paintings:
