This is my tribute to my adopted country. From the ocean (upper left) to the mountains of Volcan Baru (lower right) and everywhere in between, the many faces of Panama are depicted here. The colors, the flowers, the modern interpretation of molas, my interpretation of the native Polleras" to the sophistication of Panama City -- expressed through mirrors and buttons -- are all captured here. In addition, the almost invisible band encircling the piece represents the hand of God protecting everyone in this mostly Catholic country.
"Arco Iris (Fragmented)"
This is from my "Authentic Lives" series and this triptych conveys the beauty and the colors in which I am surrounded. During the rainy season, I can expect to see multiple rainbows (in Spanish, "Arco Iris") appearing most afternoons.
"Roundabout"
"Roundabout" is an exploration of circles and the many ways I can create them through my medium of encaustic. Whether it's carefully constructed rows of circular orbs or casually-flung dots, I explore their visual effect when paired with other patterns. The interesting thing about the large circle in the center is the way half of it "disappears" in certain light, as seen in the second of the detail shots.
"Authentic Lives: Fiesta"
Another of my Authentic Lives series, this speaks to the party life many of us retired expats carry on with upon retiring here. It reminds me of my freshman year of college, when we were first free of parental constraints and some of us blew off a little too much steam. Here, in retired life, we are free of life's constraints. And, for many here, it's one big party!
"Authentic Lives: Hong Kong"
I explore a little of my "inner asiatic" with the use of some Chinese brush painting papers. I put them through a shredder and then embedded in the wax in between the raised panels of color.
"Cerunesia"
This is part of an exploration of my Oceana Series. I have a strong affinity for the ocean. Water, the deeper levels of the ocean, the way light reflects on it, it's buoyancy and ability to lift and give life are interesting to me.
"Alluvion"
Part of the Oceana Series, I'm interested in how shorelines can change change just through the building up and tearing down of minerals, silt and refuse that are carried by the ocean's water.
SOLD "Shoreward"
I love to boogie board at Las Lajas Resort in Panama. This is my view for the better part of the day when I'm there.
