From "Calles Y Colores" Series
Street construction has lately held my attention. When cobblestone streets are dug up, walkers
need to keep their "nose to toes" or they will wind up falling down. As such, I've been studying
plenty of stone patterning and out of it came some works from late 2019. In addition, these are the
first works where I've combined elements of Cold Wax/Oil AND Encaustic together in one piece. Enjoy!

From The "SMA Walls" Series
The walls of San Miguel never cease to hold my interest. However, occasionally, someone will open their door just as I’m walking by and, for a brief second, I get a glimpse into their interiors. “SMA Walls”, each a different wall color, gives us glimpses into other peoples’ interior worlds.
From The "Distant Dreams" Series
I've been spending a lot of time at the beach in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, lately. I have discovered whenever I stare at the horizon line, thinking pleasant thoughts, I begin to daydream. And then plans begin to formulate.
I wanted to capture that process in my new "Distant Dreams" series.

From The "Double Vision" Series
THREE SERIES from 2018
#1: Authentic Lives
Authentic Lives is about people who think carefully about how they live their lives. The recessed, slightly opaque, bands of color in the background represent the vast majority of people who go about their jobs, day in and day out, just sort of on autopilot. Then something happens and we really change how we live. Maybe we get rid of destructive habits that have been imprisoning us. Maybe we change where we live, who we live with. The raised, more colorful, fully textured panels represent the brilliant – and authentic lives – we begin to consciously live. Click on the first photo of each set to see a full view.

#2: CityBlocks
Utilizing the “EncauStrips” method featured in the Authentic Lives series, I create small squares of 3 strips each that are juxtaposed in various colors and patterns and then kept constrained in small, compact blocks. I imagine the colors of the various Colonias in and around San Miguel and so name the CityBlocks after that particular area.

#3: LandStracts
LandStracts is my interpretation of my photograph of a landscape. I bring the image I took into Photoshop on my computer.
I remove a thin, vertical strip from the photo and, utilizing the “transform” tool, I stretch the strip to the right and left edges of my image. This results in an abstract image featuring horizontal bands of color. This becomes the jumping off point for each landscape abstract…a “LandStract”, and each is named for its photographic origins.

Day of the Dead
"Day of the Dead" Holiday is huge here in San Miguel. To commemorate it, I've created a few paintings:
