"Senescence"
Senescence is a series of ten paintings that look at aging. Growing up in Southern California, I received a lot of messages about growing old. The biggest one I remember is "Don't Do It!"I've spent decades watching many of my elder sisterhood of women working to stave off the effects of aging, thinking to myself "Thank God I'm not there yet." Well, I'm there now. And I'm painting about aging. Not just our bodies aging, but also infrastructure, institutions and landmarks.
In my work, I use architectural references, map lines, shape and texture to convey my themes of aging. Juxtaposition of value, color and hard/soft edges are other ways I explore the natural processes of aging and decay.
